Man shot while trying to save sister
A Pinetown man is fighting for his life at a Durban hospital following a hijacking outside his driveway on Tuesday.
Kevin Piliyathan, 30, was shot when he tried to save his sister and her friend from hijackers out side his home in Wybank near Pinetown.
Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Vincent Mdunge said two women were leaving their home when four men travelling in a silver grey VW car blocked their drive way.
He said the driver of the vehicle reversed and crashed into the hijacker's car after two men carrying firearm had jumped out of the car and pointed firearms towards them.
Mdunge said when the two women in the car saw what was happening they escaped and ran back to the house. "Their brother who was in the house ran towards the gate and he was shot at by the hijackers who were driving away." Mdunge said the man sustained serious gun shots and was rushed to hospital.
He said no one has been arrested and a case of hijacking and attempted murder had been opened.
