Two robbers die in Vereeniging
Two robbers died in a shootout with the police after robbing a jewellery shop in Vereeniging on Monday, Gauteng police said.
Colonel Eugene Opperman said six men held up staff at NWJ Jewellery at 9.30am and fled with jewellery in a grey Toyota Corolla.
Police and the SA Airforce launched a search for the car and found it on the Old Vereeniging Road.
When the robbers opened fire on the police, they retaliated. Two of the robbers died on the scene. The other four were wounded.
Opperman said the stolen jewellery was recovered and four firearms were seized. - Sapa
